Class of 1997
I graduated from Mary MacKillop College in 1997, and it’s hard to believe that was 27 years ago - it feels like just yesterday. Reflecting on my time at MMC brings back only fond memories. I was fortunate to be part of a year level filled with friendly, confident and funny young women, some of whom I’m lucky to still be in touch with today. My teachers were incredibly inspiring; they genuinely cared, challenged us and always had our best interests at heart.
One subject that stands out is Art, which I had a love/hate relationship with.
Ms Di Blasio taught Art so beautifully that I fell in love with the stories of artists from the Renaissance, Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism and the Gothic era. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the best artist myself. Recently, I fulfilled a dream from my art class days by visiting the Louvre in France, a place I’d longed to see, it was a very emotional experience for me.
Since leaving school, my career has taken many turns, all with the same goal of helping others achieve success. I initially pursued a Bachelor of Education (Middle School) but spent most of my teaching career working with Year 11 and 12 students at a trade and apprenticeship college in Adelaide. I found great satisfaction in preparing students for the workforce and supporting them in securing employment. After the birth of my third child, I transitioned into recruitment, where I’ve loved working with adults to help them find fulfilling jobs. This role requires empathy, strategy and a keen sense of what makes people excited about their work.
In 2021, I took a significant leap by leaving my job to start my own recruitment business. I now own and run Champagne Recruitment in Kent Town, specialising in the recruitment of professional and executive roles across Adelaide. It was a daunting move, but I absolutely love it. It’s the hardest I’ve ever worked but also the most enjoyable. I’ve learned that with determination and a supportive network of family, friends and business connections, you can achieve anything.
I am also a very proud Ambassador for the Hospital Research Foundation Group where every dollar we raise goes directly towards lifesaving medical research and patient care projects. To have the opportunity to give back to the community is one strong value which I have taken from my days at school.
Today, I’m married to Jason and we have three children: Spencer, Henley and Lola. Life is hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
