NAPLAN Results
The 2019 NAPLAN results have been released and the individual student results for Year 7 & 9 students will be sent home to families at the end of term. NAPLAN tests a variety of literacy and numeracy skills and while it does give us a profile of a student’s abilities, the data is only a snapshot of a student’s achievement in time.

There was an exhibit featuring artwork from Visual Art and Design students. The display was part of a Café style area available for pre-show viewing. The Parents and Friends provided light refreshments and it was a wonderful introduction to the evening.

On Wednesday 11 September, students from Mary MacKillop and Seymour College came together to perform in a night of pure expression. With items presented in a range of themes and genres, each student truly gave their all, working together and communicating expressively with their audience. As themes of reconciliation, reflection on lives lost in war and respect for nature were explored, students and audience members were reminded of the power of dance in connecting us to the world and our experiences.

Blended or stepfamilies, come in all shapes and sizes. Today, the term “blended family” is more commonly used as opposed to “stepfamily”. Although their original meanings differ slightly, today both terms are used interchangeably. This is mostly due to some of the negative connotations associated with fairytale characters such as the evil stepmother or stepsister.

Opening Prayer |
O eternal God and Ruler of all creation, You have allowed me to reach this hour. Forgive the sins I have committed this day by word, deed or thought. Purify me, O Lord, from every spiritual and physical stain. Grant that I may rise from this sleep to glorify You by my deeds throughout my entire lifetime, and that I be victorious over every spiritual and physical enemy. Deliver me, O Lord, from all vain thoughts and from evil desires, for yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen.
(By Saint Macarius)

125 years ago, in 1894, the women of South Australia were granted the right to vote and stand for parliament. The Women’s Suffrage League, established in 1888, collected 11,600 signatures for a petition in favour of extending the right to vote to women in South Australia. Thanks to the decades of protests, campaigns and activism held by a few dozen suffragettes, we have the opportunity to voice what we want to the Parliament through voting.
